Devon Women In Business
The Devon Women In Business (DWiB) organisation is led by Louise Jenner (a career and business coach) and Maureen Townsend (a business support services provider) and helps Devon-based women boost their business skills and their business confidence through women-only networking events which are held virtually and in various (usually very picturesque) locations across Devon.
Rather than taking the form of sales pitches and forced self-promotion, the DwiB events focus on conversation, collaboration and empowerment.
Each meet-up event usually incorporates a ‘speed-networking’ session which allows members to speak with everyone at the event. This removes the awkwardness of entering a roomful of ‘strangers’ and not knowing how to join conversations or break in politely.
The atmosphere at the DWiB networking events is always warm and welcoming.
DWiB members cover very diverse professions such as photographers, accountants, wellness coaches, cyber security consultants, hospitality and catering service providers, marketing consultants, nutritionists, designers, racecourse owners and even an alpaca farm owner!
The virtual networking events usually start with a short presentation from one of the members on a topic that informs and inspires. The sessions then continue with opportunities to network.
DwiB also arranges and hosts various other workshops for its business owners and entrepreneurial members and have in the past held events entitled ‘Visualising your Dream Business’ and ‘Money Saving’.
There is also an annual DWiB awards ceremony which celebrates its members’ achievements through a variety of categories, including ‘Start-Up of the Year’, ‘Small Business of the Year’ and ‘Female Employer of the Year’.
There are four tiers of membership designed to suit the size and nature of each member’s business and membership fees range from £5 a month.
Members are allowed to use the DWiB logo on their marketing materials, email footers, websites etc. and receive discounts, free promotional activities, special offers and access to exclusive events. They are also listed in the Members’ Directory to increase the visibility of their business.
Devon is a vast county with many rural areas. Finding specialist, fully-regulated and approachable intellectual property legal service providers is not always an easy task, particularly in north Devon, so attending DWiB’s networking events allows our Devon-based Trade Mark Attorney, Emma Kirkpatrick, to introduce SH&P to the county’s business owners and give help where it is needed.
It also allows Emma to address the many misconceptions and questions that businesses have regarding trade marks and business branding.
Our participation at the DWiB networking events and connection with business owners in attendance allows us to support these businesses and give them easy access to intellectual property information and guidance, as well as allowing for the exchange of knowledge and the development of skills.
DwiB is an excellent organisation for any businesswomen looking for an extra bit of support.
Emma often attends the DWiB get-togethers and would be very glad to have a chat with anyone looking for answers to trade mark and branding questions.
